The bits of hard-edged contours in the water running down over the face give the piece a graphic life source appeal. While the image could be seen as sensual, the introduction of the water is not to be viewed as a subtle inclusion or variant, but as an overwhelming sensory element. The water is a representation of how any one event in an individual’s life can come over them and literally "envelop" them in such a way that it places them in despair. My goal has always been for art to be an expression, which invokes emotion. Again the subject is a woman. Women are better in recognizing expression of emotions, the very thing I am hoping to invoke. The female advantage in emotion recognition becomes even more apparent under conditions of rapid stimulus presentation. Hence the water
and it’s play.
